Accident Guide

Below is a simple guide that contains extracts from the Road Traffic Act and Budget Rental terms and conditions, to assist in the event of an accident. The document does not replace or supersede the contractual documents already signed by the customer and driver and is not intended to be exhaustive.
1) Immediately stop the vehicle.
2) Ascertain the nature and extent of injury sustained, and render assistance where necessary and contact emergency services immediately.
3) Do not consume alcohol or narcotics unless administered by a medical practitioner.
4) Ascertain the nature and extent of damage sustained.
5) Do not move the vehicle, unless instructed by a police officer, where injury has been sustained.
6) Obtain the 3rd party details:
6.1) Name, address and contact details of driver.
6.2) Name, address and contact details of owner.
6.3) Contact name of insurance representative, where applicable.
6.4) Vehicle make, model and registration number.
7) Sketch the location and vehicle positioning.
8) Take photographs of the location and vehicles .
9) Obtain independent witness contact information.
10) Provide contact information to the police or 3rd party as required.
11) Do not admit liability or settle any claim.
12) Do not release any party from liability or accept any disclaimer of liability.
13) Safeguard and secure the Budget vehicle.

15) The assist call centre will help with queries and a variety of services, including medical and towing.
16) You are not allowed to effect any repairs to the Budget Vehicle.
17) Report the accident to the police within 24 hours and obtain an accident reference number.
18) Within 48 hours complete in detail the Budget claim form and submit a copy of your driver’s license.
19) Assist Budget, our legal representative and or our Insurer in any investigation.
20) Pay all amounts due including, but not limited to the liability amount, towing costs and claim administration fee.
