Avis Budget gives back this Mandela Day
In celebration of International Mandela Day on the 18th of July and in spirit of Madiba’s vision to change the lives of the less fortunate, Avis Budget southern Africa have committed to various initiatives for 67 minutes on Friday 17 July.
International Mandela Day encourages all South Africans to give 67 minutes of public service for Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of service to humanity.
Avis Budget Brand Ambassadors across all regions were encouraged to contribute new school socks or blankets to be donated to schools and underprivileged communities in their different regions. Material was also supplied to the regions for Avis Budget Brand Ambassadors who showed interest in spending their 67 minutes making blankets.
In addition, a number of Avis Budget Brand Ambassadors spent their 67 minutes packaging meals at the Sandton Convention Centre in aid of the Stop Hunger Campaign. Stop Hunger Now Southern Africa (SHN SA) is a volunteer based meal packaging and results oriented nutrition programme, which started in South Africa in 2009.
On Saturday 18 July, Jumping Kids together with Avis Budget, sponsored one child with prosthetic legs in Bloemfontein. Avis has been supporting Jumping Kids Prosthetic Fund since 2011 and is the project’s main contributor, helping in providing a number of children with much needed prosthetics.
Rainer Gottschick, Avis Budget Chief Executive southern Africa says, “We are inspired and encouraged by Madiba’s legacy to give back to the less fortunate and we are humbled to be participating in a number of initiatives this year. We hope that the culture of giving continues past International Mandela Day and that Avis Budget Brand Ambassadors can always find ways to give back in any which way possible.”
